Are you afraid.....continued

Hi Everyone!

Last night I wrote a blog asking if you were afraid: Are you afraid to grow your business.  One of my Agents read it and we had a good conversation about fear and how it has held her back from success.  She has done well with our marketing system from The eHomes Realty Network, our 100MPH Marketing system.  However, she is doing about half the sales of some of my other Agents.  So when she came to me, she looked a little distraught.  She said that this email was a lot stronger than she has heard me talk.  I told her if she came in the office more she would see more!  What she said she learned from it was that the fear inside of her about failing has held her back tremendously.  She realized that she has been blaming everybody and everything for her lack of success this year.  She has only had 6 sales this year where most of my Agents are over 15 and some of my Agents are over 20 sales so far.

Because of her fear she has not really worked hard.  We determined that she has really only worked 3 hours a day at the most.  Because she didn't want to fail, especially in an office where most Agents are successful...instead she stayed away from the office and sort of just faded away from the successful to blame the world on her problems.  She figured if she did totally bad, like almost every Agent in the county, it wouldn't be her fault.  She also figured that if she really did try and fail in our system, she would feel even worse about herself.

With all this said, she has commited to me to really start working hard.  She is determined to be successful in Real Estate and in our system. I'm excited for her and will support her as I do all my Agents.  I know she will succeed if she can keep her mindset strong.  I will let you know how she makes out over the next couple of weeks.

Are you afraid to grow your business? If not, what are you doing to grow your business?

Most of you know me now as the guy who developed the 100MPH Marketing System which my members of The eHomes Realty Network all use.  Some of you also know that I speak from experience when I talk about lead conversion since my brokerage, Tropical Realty in Melbourne Florida is ranked number 1 in Buyer Transactions in Brevard County Florida for 2 years running using our 100MPH system.  It's a simple but awesome system that works.

However, that is not why I'm here to talk to you tonight.  One of my jobs as the Coach of The eHomes Realty Network is to help my members create a business plan, or a plan of action on growing their business.  I work with with lots of Agents in creating this growth plan.  What I find, is that almost every realtor I talk to wants to be successful, but they don't have any idea how to actually get there.   My question is, why don't more Agents actually take the steps involved to be more successful.

I know that many Agents are here on Active Rain to learn how to use the Internet to grow their businesses.  I have really only talked to a handful that are really being successful doing this.  So why is that the case?  Why are you on here asking questions and learning this stuff if you really are not taking the plunge to move forward?

Luckily, I believe I know the answer and I think I can help you figure it out....although I think that most you are aware of this already.  The answer, is fear.  It comes in many forms such as fear of making an investment, fear of failure (probably your biggest fear), fear of commitment, fear of the unknown.  This is just a few of them, and I'm sure you can come up with many more.

So let's look at a couple of those fears.

1.  Fear of Investment - Since we receive a phone call a day with someone trying to sell us something, not only are you afraid of making an investment, you are very skeptical of making an investment.  I have owned 14 or 15 businesses and I can tell you that if you really want to be successful, you need to invest in your business.  Sure you can make a small living by selling real estate to your friends, but my guess is that's not working great for you these days.  Even though I know Agents that are making a living doing business without investing much money, but they are far and few between.  If you are one of them, then good job! For the rest of us who don't have the luxury of knowing every doctor in town, you will never go anywhere in this business without looking at your Real Estate career as a business.  The problem is, most of you have never owned or ran a business so you really don't have the direction you need to be successful.  It's up to you to have the right mind set to build your business.  Create a budget and be willing to commit (fear of commitment) to at least 1 year of doing whatever you decide to do.  Almost nothing works overnight.  The Internet is the only thing I have found that consistently works and can build a business within just a few months!

2.  Fear of Failure - It is so easy to blame the economy, your local real estate market, your broker, your brothers wifes aunt is sick, the dog pee'd on your computer and you couldn't do anything this month.  We are all very good at blaming everybody and everything for our personal failures.  You use these excuses to give yourself a reason to fail.  Let's face it, if you don't try things to become successful you won't fail at them.  I guess that's very safe but it will never bring you to the next level of this business.  So now that we know why you do this, what can you do to get yourself out of this funk.  This answer is going to sound simple, just do it.  I wrote a manual called I Don't Sell You, I Help You! (Just Do It!).  It's really about taking responsibility for yourself and breaking that fear of failure and just doing it.  Every single person reading this right now can make the decision right now to change.  You have every opportunity in this day and age to become better, stronger, healthier and more successful.  The only thing holding you back is you.  You are usually your worst enemy.  In my opinion the only thing worse than failing at anything is the failure to try.  Who knows, if you wake up tomorrow and decide to actually do something to become better in this business, you might just surprise yourself. In a few months of investment and commitment into the right program, you will find success.  Of course you have to be able to toss that fear of failure out of your head and just do it!

By the way, even though I have built most of my businesses from nothing, I have always had some fear of failure. The difference between myself and so many others is that I'm not going to let my fears run my life.  I'm a big believer in getting out of my comfort zone.  I like to do what nobody else is doing because the thrill of success for taking the chance outweighs the fear of being on my death bed and saying I wish I had done....

Ok, I can go on all night about this stuff.  I'm sure many of you may not have even made it this far, but I hope you have.  I hope you are reading this and realizing that next year at this time you will be in this exact same position if you don't make changes right now.

So how do you get started?

I'm a big believer in Systems.  I have built my company around building solid systems that any of my Agents and now members of The eHomes Realty Network can follow pretty easily to become successful.  The problem for you is how do you know which systems to use?  There are systems like my 100MPH Marketing System, The Mike Ferry System, The Craig Proctor System and so many more.  All three of these systems are proven systems that work.  All these systems also take an investment in both time and money to learn and master.

I created the 100MPH system because both the other systems didn't play into my strong points of my Internet background.  Unfortunately nobody was doing what I do so I had to develop it myself.  My question to you is, why reinvent the wheel and try to figure out how to become successful in this business when people like myself have already developed systems that work.  I'm sure Mr. Ferry and Mr. Proctor spent a lot of time and money like I have to develop these systems and then more importantly prove these systems.  Granted, their systems have been around a lot longer than my 100MPH System.  That's why I only charge $39.95 a month to be part of my network.  Once the Network has grown and more and more Agents are successful following my system, you can believe that the price will increase.  I will give you a word of caution when talking to companies about their systems.  Ask them if they use their own system and how many sales have they had this year (the worst real estate market in a long time).  If their systems are successful in this market, that is the system you want to use.

Well, I hope you learned something about yourself with this post.  My goal isn't to sell you on joining The eHomes Realty Network.  If you are ready for that type of commitment, you should contact me.  However, my goal of this post is to get you to take some action toward building your career and growing your business.  Nobody is going to do it for you.  It's all up to you.  The ball is in your court.  You can wake up tomorrow and do the same thing you did today or you can wake up tomorrow and commit to change.  I hope you commit to change.

If you would like advice on what to do next, don't hesitate to contact me.  I have no problem giving people advice whether you are a member or not.  I get a huge personal reward helping people become successful.  In the end, all I love doing is teaching people how to be successful.  Are you ready?!

Have you thought about where you are going?

I spend so much time with my Agents trying to explain to them how important it is to plan your future.  No matter how much I do this, they don't listen.  Even still, thankfully for our systems, they are successful.  So what is the difference between one of my Agents who has almost 30 closings this year to my next best Agent that has 16 closings?  It really comes down to work ethic and planning.

All my Agents are given there leads on a daily basis.  The leads will give them 30+ sales per year if they work hard.  Some of my Agents this year will hit over 25 sales...some a little less.  But I think of how successful they could really be if they would really work the business.

Do you have a plan?  Do you actually write down your goals for each year, quarter, month, week?  As most of you know me as the owner of The eHomes Realty Network, I am also the owner/broker of Tropical Realty of Suntree in Melbourne Florida.  The great news is as a company we are doing just fine in this horrible market.  However, I have some Agents who are continuing to complain and blame the market on their failures.  In the end, it all comes down to operating your Real Estate business as a real business.  If you don't run your business like a business should be run, then how do you expect to be successful.

Many Agents started in the boom years of 2003-2005 where all you had to do was tell someone you are a Realtor and you made $100k.  Today if you plan on making $100k or more, you better start changing your ways.  It's just not enough now to just be a Realtor.  Spend some time and write down what your goals are over the last few months of the year.  Where do you want to be a year from now and how are you going to get there.  Is time management your problem?  Usually?  Do you really think you work full time but really only work a few hours per day?  Do you really want to be successful or are you really a wanna be?  These are questions you need to ask yourself if you really want to be successful.

If you need help in working on your plan, feel free to email me.  I help Agents become successful.  Of course, I can only teach you this stuff...if you don't have it in you to be successful, then this is the market in which you should call it a day.  Don't be a wanna be, be successful.  It all starts with a plan of action and a real goal to achieve.  You can talk all you want, but the proof is in the pudding.  I always put my money where my mouth is and luckily the money is still flowing in!

Do you think the bailouts of the financial firms is the right move?

With the government bailing out the financial companies of our country, what does this all mean to us? Actually, I wish I had the answer. To me this is probably a mistake as we have become a reactionary country versus a country of sound principles. I'm a big believer in less government. I believe that captialism will provide most of the answers as it usually does. I know that if my company is having financial trouble nobody is going to come and save me. I'm going to drown with all my other small business comrades!

These companies are failing because they got greedy and corrupt. Should they be saved? The problem is that they control so much of our citizens retirement accounts and that's where the issue lies. That is why the government is bailing out these companies. However, if this has to be, then the people who run these companies should be held accountable for all the bad investments they made with our money. It was these people, out of greed, that made the decisions to make these dumb investments. Are they going to be able to continue to run these companies with no consequence?

As I said, I'm not a big believer in bailing out these companies but we are in a tough place. If we don't do it, millions of people are going to be financially ruined. If we do it we are saying it's ok to take risks that are going to hurt these same millions of people.

It's the same with all these investors who decided to walk away from their obligations because of their greed...but that's another story for another day!

Are you afraid of the Internet? You shouldn't be!

I ask that question because I have been talking to a lot of Realtors lately who really are afraid to make the investment in their business by using the Internet.  Sure, many of them are on Activerain but that's about as far as their Internet expertise goes.

As most of you know, I own The eHomes Realty Network.  I have spent the last almost 7 years creating Internet programs that work.  This year we should hit over 250 sales from our Internet programs.  The reason I'm telling you this is that the sales are there for the asking.  As much as I talk to Agents, it amazes me  how many are not using the Internet to generate business.  Let's talk about why.

1.  Most Agents are not willing to spend money on building their programs.  I have spent a small fortune figuring out how to do this successfully.  Building a successful business is all about investing time and money.  Yes, you can plug along with your business, but if you really want to get to the next level (over 50 sales per year) then you have to do what others are not doing.

2.  Most Agents just don't understand the Internet.  With an average age of 52, an average Realtor didn't grow up with computers as part of their lives.  Honestly, if it wasnt for my trying to figure out how to put my dating service online in 1996, I would probably never had been exposed either.  I still don't have a clue what some of the terminology is, but I know how to make it work for my business!

3. Most Agents are being told to do different things.  My favorite line to the Agents and Vendors who tell me their product or solution is the best is, "how many sales did you have from it last year?".  That is one of the reasons I talk about our sales at Tropical Realty and The eHomes Realty Network.  I not only get this stuff and teach it, I live it every single day and have sales to prove it works!

4. Paradigm Paralysis.  I think the biggest problem is grasping change.  Old school Real Estate tells you to make phone calls, do post cards and a whole bunch of old school stuff.  They train you in how to do all this old school stuff and try to find the buyers.  The problem is, the buyers are sitting on their computers looking at homes and buying homes right under your eyes.  It's up to you to take the chance and the risk to move into a different era.  It is the future of Real Estate.

With all this said, if you really would like some honest help that works, please don't hesitate to contact me.  I have helped many Agents on Activerain with their Internet programs.  The ones that have listened to me have experienced the possibilities.  Of course, if you are trying to change but don't actually commit to change nothing will happen.  After all, if you are doing the same thing you did last year you will most likely get the same results.  If you are happy with the results, don't change.  If you really want to bring your business to the next level, then change is a must!
